No Tricks, All Treats at Tricky Fish
The Tricky Fish Restaurant, located on State Street in the City Line development in Richardson Texas, is a nicely tucked away gem. The restaurant is all about Louisiana style food. You can enjoy regional favorites such as shrimp and grits, gumbo, fried okra and fried...well everything....for lunch or dinner.
One unique feature of the service at Tricky Fish is that during the week, everyone is encouraged to order directly from the counter and the orders are delivered to customers at their table in an efficient amount of time. Their prime location keeps them mindful of the daily hustle and bustle of the corporate workers who occupy the space within the City Line complex, primarily State Farm and Raytheon employees. On the weekends, it's back to exceptional table side service as usual.
A few days ago, my trip to Tricky Fish was all about brunch! It was a wonderful way to spend a rainy Saturday morning. I started my adventure with a drink called "Blossom" which was a delightful mix of Bacardi Rum, lemon, Berry Blossom tea and strawberry cordial. Artsy presentation and just as delicious.
First up were the Praline Pancakes with their tasty dance partners to boot. These fluffy pancakes were accompanied by macerated raspberries, orange cream and a praline pecan whiskey syrup. Safe to say I'm off to a great start here.
Remember my reference to Shrimp & Grits earlier? Yep they're just as good for brunch too. This was a wonderful presentation of fried Gulf Oysters and Shrimp on top of a heavenly bed of corn and bacon grits...and of course, who doesn't love a good runny egg on top?
Up Next? Andouille Hash & Eggs! (insert second Blossom drink!) I enjoyed perfectly poached eggs over an andouille sausage, potato and pepper hash. Best part of this dish for me was the Roasted Green Chile Hollandaise, yummy!
In my opinion, the sister dish to the Andouille Hash and Eggs is the NOLA Benedict. The concept is almost identical, but the hash is replaced by great tasting peppers and onions and topped with a Creole Mustard Hollandaise that was simply delicious. Oh yeah, enjoy the inspired addition of fried okra to this dish!
And now...the moment I've personally been waiting to type to. Can we talk about the absolutely and wonderfully decadent Bananas Foster Monkey Bread?!?! If you remember nothing else from this review just keep saying to yourself, "Monkey.......Bread..."
The Bananas Foster Monkey Bread is a perfect mingling of two of my favorite sweet flavors. The firm bananas on top are swimming in a sweet sea of dark rum and cinnamon sugar. After my eyes uncrossed, I looked down at the menu at the description and read "Great for Sharing." Yeah, I'm not sharing my monkey bread Tricky Fish, and you're not the boss of me. There will only be one spoon present on my next visit.
I had a great time enjoying wonderful food, and great company as well on my visit. Next time you're craving brunch Louisiana style-you're in for a great treat at Tricky Fish.
